Overview
The department of oral pathology and microbiology has been the back bone of many other departments of this institution. Sir William osler has stated that As is your pathology, so is your practice. In other words one cannot become a competent clinician without full Knowledge of pathology. This department involves the scientific study of the causes and effects of oral diseases that combines knowledge with investigative procedures which is essential for diagnosis and the development of rationale treatment and preventive programs. There are more than 200 different types of diseases that affect the oral cavity and many of these can only be diagnosed through microscopic examination. Oral diagnosis is based on sound knowledge of oral pathology and is essential for good clinical practice. We seek to promote education and training, research and standards of services provided in head and neck pathology. The goal of this department is to provide basic knowledge of normal dental anatomy and histology and its pathological form for improved understanding of oral diseases and diagnosis. The students shall be trained about diseases in an about the oral cavity.
