PROSTHODONTICS

Overview
The term “Prosthesis” refers to replacement of a missing body part using artifical subsitutes. Speciality of “Prosthodontics” deals with replacement of missing teeth and associated oral and para oral structures using artificial substitutes. A prosthodontist is a specialist in replacement of missing teeth and other oral / facial structures. Thus the scope of a prosthodontist is not limited only to the replacement of missing teeth, but he is also capable of treating patients with missing ears, nose, fingers, ears etc with prosthesis. Prosthodontics can be sub divided into Removable Prosthodontics, Fixed Prosthodontics, Implantology, Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Dental Material Sciences. Prosthodontics forms the major portion of daily dental practice and hence the students should be trained thoroughly in basics of this dental speciality. Our department trains both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Undergraduates are trained in basic material sciences, preclinical prosthodontics and clinical prosthodontics covering right from their first year till their internship.

Our areas of expertise:
1. Removable Prosthodontics - Complete Dentures, Partial Dentures, Cast Partial Dentures (metal base dentures)
2. Fixed Prosthodontics - Metal Ceramics and Metal Free Ceramics to replace missing teeth
3. Implant Prosthodontics - Dental implants are the latest option for replacing missing teeth - they provide a reliable, predictable and long lasting treatment option. From single tooth to full arch implant prosthesis options are available.
4. Smile designing - Dental Veneers and Other Bonded Restorations are used to create bright, white smiles with beautifully shaped teeth
5. Esthetic Reconstructive Dentistry - is the most advanced approach to providing fully or partially edentulous patients with the highest level of implantology treatment
6. Full Mouth Rehabilitation - rehabilitating patients with debilitated teeth / worn out teeth. This restores the form and function of the lost tooth structures
7. Temporomandibular Disorders and Occlusion (Bite Disorders) - Providing treatments for jaw problems caused by temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) and deranged occlusion (bite) of the patient.
8. Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Anaplastics - Rehabilitation of patients with gross facial defects such as cleft palate, post cancer patients, maxillectomy / mandibulectomy patients. Anaplastics deals with replacemernt of missing ears, nose, eyes, fingers etc using natural looking silicone prosthesis.
