The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology at Chettinad Dental College and Research Institute was established with a revelation to offer the best inpatient care, student mentoring and research. Our specialty is highly diverse, which is reflected in the broad range of our department’s curriculum. The department faculties are actively engaged in collaborative research work and innovative teaching-learning practices.

Oral Medicine focuses on the diagnosis and non-surgical management of medically related disorders or conditions affecting the oral and maxillofacial region. Radiology involves the use of imaging techniques, such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs, to diagnose and plan treatments for dental and maxillofacial issues.

Our areas of expertise:
Clinical Work in the department of Oal Medicine:

All the patients should be screened for the minutest of dental and dental related pathologies and to handle dental cases with regards diagnosis, investigation and treatment planning
Special attention should be given to Oral Mucosal Lesions, Bony Lesions, Temporomandibular Joint Disorders, Orofacial Pain, and Cancer Detection; its prompt and accurate diagnosis and immediate treatment. Handling Oral Mucosal Lesions namely Tobacco related lesions, Ulcerative Lesions and others including diagnosis and treatment of the lesions, carrying out various investigations.
Various treatment modalities are carried out like;
i. Intralesional Injections.- OSMF, Lichenplanus etc
ii. Intra-articular Injections. - pain and clicking
iii. TENS therapy.- treatment of orofacial pain (including Neuralgias)
iv. Splint Therapy. - TMJ and occlusal dicrepancies
v. Oral Medications - Deficiencies, burning mouth syndrome etc
vi. Exicisional Biopsy.etc- small benign growths, premalignant lesions were carried out after meticulous evaluation and diagnosis by highly trained oral medicine residents.
Biopsy; incisional, excisional and punch in suspected precancerous and cancerous cases.
In-house patient education and awareness and investigation of the pathology and its treatment sequel is also carried out.
Cancer and Pre Cancer Detection, history taking, habits, clinical examination, use of aids like vizilite and velscope. Treating dysplasia with antifungl and medicinal other regimes, taking biopsies.
The Department may organize a number of Awareness programmes, and Street plays to increase the awareness and prevention of Oral cancer and AIDS.
Counselling Center for Patients and family in case of Cancer, Aids and other debelitating diseases.
Habit breaking programmes.
